Last year, my sister started telling me about one of her friends from work named Kenya who was planning on getting married and was looking for a photographer. My sister, being the ever-loyal word-of-mouth warrior, showed Kenya some of my work. Kenya reached out about this engagement session at the beginning of the year, and despite COVID we braved Long Hunter State Park in our masks (except for the parts where she and her fiance, JT, are smooching of course).
Kenya and JT have known each other since eating lunch with their friend group in high school, but JT has always been pretty shy. In fact, Kenya spent three months trying to be friends until one day, she came right out and asked why he wouldn’t talk to her. (I know. So spicy! I love it.) That turned out to be a great move because eventually they became friends and started dating. When Kenya left for college, the two of them parted ways, only to be reunited again in Nashville.
There’s a running joke in Kenya’s family that everyone gets engaged in the house. Keeping with tradition, JT proposed to Kenya last August outside the bathroom. She was getting ready for church and he totally surprised her by popping the question!
The two of them are super laidback. They balance each other so well, and they had a smile on their faces for the whole session. After taking photos in their dressier outfits, they changed into University of Tennessee gear and finished the session in big orange. Kenya is a total sports fanatic so it only made sense.
Kenya and JT are getting married next June at the Lanning Farm in Christiana, Tennessee. Check out images from their engagement session below.
